Fairfax Heritage Resource Park as near as I can tell is really just a
stream with an earthen dam and a whole lot of trash. However it is
close to my home, so I walk it occasionally.
While there this evening I saw:
1 pair Hooded Mergansers
1 Red Shoulder Hawk, light morph
3 Golden Crowned Kinglets
10 Norther Cardinals
2 pair of Mallards
There were lots of frogs croaking, so there is lots of food for the
hawk. However, when he made a pass on the Mergansers, he scared up a
lot of other, larger, non-mallard ducks which I didn't get a look at.
I haven't seen Golden Crowned Kinglet mentioned on the list before, so
I'm not sure if this qualifies as a rare bird alert. Please let me
know, because I would be really excited if it were. I also have good ID
pictures on the kinglet, hawk, and mergansers. I can post a link if
there is enough interest.
Here is a URL to the map location of the park if you want to check it
out. The park doesn't show on the map, but it's there.

I had to walk into the thorn bushes to see the mergansers and kinglets.
The hawk was on the north shore of the pool, about 1/3 of the way up
the tree.
