Despite high winds and the constant threat of rain, 9 people joined me for this
Sunday's edition of the Dyke Marsh walk. High tide kept gull numbers low, and
I couldn't conjure up a Great Black-backed Gull despite constant searching.
Migration is in full swing, with a combination of winter birds and spring
arrivals present. It was a delight to hear a Winter Wren south of Dead Beaver
Beech and despite low duck numbers, we were pleased to spot 3 American Wigeon
in the little gut. Spring arrivals included 2 Brown Thrashers, 1 singing atop
a snag in the Picnic Area and the other at the marina, both spotted by Kim
Peacock. Both Kim and I heard Eastern Bluebirds in song. All three swallows
were observed. Three Ospreys were tending to nesting duties. Big misses:
American Coot, Great Blk-backed Gull, House Finch.
