In addition to a small handful of BROAD-WINGEDs seen lazily riding
the thermals over the house yesterday, RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD
decided to make it's first appearance of the season. Wasting no time, a
bird was seen in display flight an hour and a half later.
The real treat of the day, or night I suppose, was several
WHIP-POOR-WILL calling from the pastureland bordering our neighbors
woods. We moved in to the house in late July last year, and though we
spent much of our time outdoors, I never heard a peep. I suppose we
were just a bit too late.
Other new arrivals include: BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER (4/7), BLUE-HEADED
VIREO (4/11), YELLOW-THROATED VIREO (4/15) & BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLER (4/16).
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PURPLE FINCH and some extremely handsome
WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continue to hang.
