About half an hour before the start of the Dyke Marsh walk that I led this
morning I saw 2 black terns off the marina. We could not refind them during
the walk.
Birding during the walk was rather slow, with 56 species tallied. The only
passerine migrants were magnolia and blackpoll warblers. One drake bufflehead
and one red-breased merganser were in the river off the picnic area. We heard
4 marsh wrens, and saw 3 spotted sandpipers. We got good looks at both
orioles, and saw a kingbird carrying nesting material behind the marina.
