Although I haven't had much chance to get out in the woods, I have had
some interesting feeder birds. In addition to the regulars- towhees,
chipping sparrows, goldfinches galore, purple finches, w.b. nuthatches,
yellow-bellied sapsuckers, black-capped chickadees, downy woodpeckers, I
also have had one red crossbill for over a week, and a rosebreasted
grosbeak for a couple of weeks. As I was watching, a black-throated
green sang from the tree above me. Last night I heard a veery. Tom said
he heard a golden-winged warbler, but I wasn't able to hear it. For the
first time, we have a pair of mourning doves, something unusual for this
high elevation. The hummers are slow in coming, although we have a
couple at the feeders. Looks like spring has finally arrived up on the
mountain!
