VA-Birders,
Rob Hilton just phoned me to say that he and Lisa Shannon arrived at
Hunting Creek about 5:15 pm today (Friday, Sep. 19), and they spent nearly 2
hours
studying a storm-petrel on the creek side of the Stone Bridge. Whether or
not it was the same bird which had earlier been reported as a Wilson's
Storm-Petrel they do not know, but they believe that the bird they saw was a
Band-rumped Storm-Petrel. Rob asked me to post this report because they are
still
without power.
NOTE ON GETTING TO HUNTING CREEK: Joanna Taylor and I tried to go down there
from North Arlington this afternoon. The G.W. Pkwy was closed south of I-395
and the traffic on Rt. 1 (where they were sending everyone) was worse than
rush hour. We finally gave up trying to get there and returned home. Rob said
that they took I-495 (the Capital Beltway) and got off at Rt. 1 near Hunting
Creek and got there without much trouble.
