It had taken a week to fully  analyze the remains of planet, Agi Sigma Taura.  The Eagle had been moved closer and all it's science resources had been committed to investigating the planet's destruction.  Lukas sat in his ready room, looking over the reports which had been sent on to command.  He couldn't help but wonder, was the future Gwen, and Malachi had witnessed, inevitable?  With the T'Kil threat, and now the Borg attacking, it seemed like it was heading in that direction.
That evening, Lukas activated the holo-communication program that would put him on Starbase 292, in his wife's quarters. April and the kids were totally surprised, because it was the second time, this week, Lukas had done so.  He didn't like hogging the holo-deck time, but, this evening he was feeling he needed it.
The twins were the first to attack their father, leaving Luna and Jess, plus their mother, to have to wait. Finally everyone got a chance to hug, and then they all sat down to their evening meal.
Lukas was pretty quiet, during the meal.  He was content, listening to the kids go on.  He was particularly impressed with Luna, and Rohan.  They were both intelligent, and seemed so much older than their ages.  Much like their older brother, Malachi.  Lukas was certain Luna was going to become a doctor, and Rohan would follow Malachi into the sciences field.  Ronov, Rohan's twin, was the engineer.  Lukas had seen where the boy had taken apart some of his toys and put them back together again, to get them working even better than when they were replicated.
After dinner, Lukas and April had a chance to just sit, cuddle and talk.  Lukas had expressed his more frequent thoughts of retiring, and being able to enjoy his children while there was still the chance.  April reminded him that, while she would certainly enjoy having him, physically be there (as opposed to holographically), Starfleet still needed captains like him, especially with the looming threats.  It was going to be starship commanders, with his experience, and daring, that would be the ultimate saviors of the Federation.  Maybe even life as it is in the Alpha Quadrant.
When Lukas exited the holodeck, later that night, he swore to himself the one thing he would not do, was simply roll over and let someone destroy his life as he knew it.  It was time for the Eagle and her crew to start stepping up their game.  They were going to need it.
