Ensign Malachi Styles
USS Eagle, NCC 956

ON

Whomever said an idled mind is a dahgerous playground, certainly knoew what they were talking about.  Once the main calculations were looked over, and over again, Ensign Malachi Styles's part in the Eagle's return to their own universe was completed.  He could have returned to his own Eagle, but there was something, more appropriately someONE, keeping him here.  He pretended he was listening to Lt. Commander Matsu, and Lt. Tracey going over the simulation but his mind was really on Lt. Melody.

She was, ... well, beautiful.  She did not look much older than him, but here she was a Starfleet lieutenant. A doctor, no less.  In less time than it took to exchange names, verbally, he had seen her thoughts.  Everything.  Which Malachi thought was strange, at first.  He did his best never to intrude on other's thoughts, but because Melody was taken by surprise, by his coming on the ship, she had opened her mind to him.  Malachi came to learn she was used to opening her mind to him, well not him, but him in the other universe.  He had seen everything they had shared together. Including that night on the holodeck. Malachi suddenly felt envious of his other-universe counterpart.

The bond Melody and their universe's Malachi shared must have been a deep one.  He not only felt the things Melody had shared with Malachi, but he has seen other things their Malachi had experienced in their universe.  His mother was still alive.  Lukas was his father, by adoption.  He had younger siblings.  Then, there was something else.  Another sensation, one Malachi wasn't totally certain he had picked up from Melody.  Worry.  Malachi felt a sudden sense of worry because he had not heard from Melody.  That was weird, because she was sitting right there in the same room with him.

~~He's worried about you.~~
