"If you don't snap out of it, duchess, we're gonna lose the gig," Mackie warned gently.

"What if something really awful has happened?" Silver sighed. "He could be dead."

"And moping is goin' to solve that how?"

She shot him a hard look and flowed to her feet, marching out without a word.

"You can be a right royal wanker sometimes, Mackie," Linda observed from her corner.

Hugging her arms around herself, Silver wandered out onto the promenade. She didn't care here she went, just so long as it was away from the troupe. As her winding path drew her deeper into the crowds, she touched the side of her neck, switching off her hearing device. Slowly, she stretched out her sixth sense, feeling each person who brushed past her in a way that hearing only detracted from. Each life was a bright, vibrant spark that danced in her mind in colours she could never describe to a normal.

Moving from the busy thoroughfare to one of the cafés, Silver sat down at a free table and closed her eyes. She stretched herself further. Suddenly she felt something familiar. Her eyes snapped open to fix on that familiar and handsome face. He seemed to be walking toward her but as he reached her, he walked straight past and to a table occupied by a woman twice as beautiful and half as young as Silver. At first she thought it must have been his sister but then the kiss he gave her was of a passion that he had once bestowed on her.

One tear slowly trickled down her cheek as he watched her fawning over his trophy. How he must have loathed touching her. How he must have jumped at the chance of being with someone better. Brushing violently at the tear, she rose like the Titanic reborn and breezed out. She didn't see as he lifted bright blue eyes full of regret and grief to see her go.
