You are completely right, 64 bit applications should be standard nowadays but there are surprisingly a lot of people hanging on to really old computers, XP and even older stuff with fewer bits.. :-D

Of course, use 64 bit apps whenever possible.

The AMD64 instruction set contains not only 64 bit registers but also more registers than the classic x86 instruction set, that alone gives compilers more leverage to produce faster code. Most levels of SSE and AVX instructions (handling up to 512 bits) are also standard on 90% of the PC CPU's (Mac included) and these helps with CPU graphics calculations/math and simple things like copy/moving memory.

Almost forgot 32bit on a 64bit system is a LOT slower than a native 64 bit application!
By orders of magnitude sometimes.
so there's that too

Because of the architecture, I would never recommend trying to use
a 32 bit software on windows 64 bit, if 64 bit is available,
this is because of library and DLL requirements which can really
    mess up other software.

Typical things to speed up your computer: faster cpu, more ram,
    faster HD... :)

        Hi!

The difference between the two VICE versions are the target
Windows. x64 is for 64 bit Windows (probably most common on
new computers). x86 is for 32 bit Windows but will run fine
        even on 64 bit windows.

If the games are copy protected you need to copy with nibbler
to a G64 disk image. Also you might need a 1571, parallel
cable or RAM expansion in the floppy drive to succeed with the
        copy. My knowledge ends here.

Loading times in VICE should be identical to loading times on
a real C64 unless your PC is very slow and VICE can not
emulate real time (hopefully not the case). You can try speed
up the boring load with warp mode Alt+W. Just restore normal
        speed when the loading finished.

        Hello All

I have 3 questions for you (maybe Leif can answer all 3):

        1. What's the difference between WinVICE-3.0-x64 and
        WinVICE-3.0-x86?

        2. Why didn't the games that were transferred with ZoomFloppy
        work?

        3. Why does it take WinVICE so long to load games?

        Thank you for your responses.
