1. John and Dan already answered this one.
2. No clue. My best guess is that because we were in a rush, we
downloaded PAL versions instead of NTSC versions of the games. Or,
they were just bad copies to begin with. Testing them in WinVICE (on
NTSC mode) will help confirm this.
3. WinVICE tries to emulate the C64 "properly"....this includes the
speed. This is especially the case if "True Drive Emulation" is on,
as it then also emulates the 1541 itself and transfer speed. Most
of the time though, you can speed the process up by entering "Warp
Mode" (Alt-W), then switch it off again (Alt-W a second time) once
the game starts.
