Is point of this group is to share information?

If you can answer a persons question with something relevant then do so, but
telling a person to check Google is that really helping? Some people might
not be as sharp with the search engines as others. I'm sure the next best
thing would be to post the links of the relevant results and maybe the
search parameters - which might help that person, answer their questions in
the future.

Likewise, just because someone posts something to a group of people - they
should not expect an answer. Even with groups of 100's people there are
situations when no one knows the answer. Even if a person can answer the
question, it doesn't mean that they are in front of their PC ready to answer
or have the time to do so (life, kids, school, sunny day). Sometimes when an
answer hasn't come back in a while -- it's a bit disheartening, but that's a
reality that you will have to deal with in a hobbyists distro.

I've gotten a lot of good info from the people on this list; many have been
kind to answer and just as many have been kind to be silent.

If you can't contribute something useful that pertains to the message or the
general topic -- read the message and leave it at that. If the message and
the poster are pissing you off, filter them out, delete the messages or
unsubscribe to the group. If a hobbyist distro is getting you petty, upset
or childish then maybe its time to change hobby's or take a break.

Most of us are of an age where we have experienced a professional attitude
from a peer, parent or another organization. There is no need for swearing
on public channels, we might be kids at heart but we are still adults that
should be respectful of others.

This group is archived on the net and will be available for years after you
stop posting. Are your posts worthy to be your marker when someone does a
net search for you?

Wolfgang.
