I like the vacuum Idea... Just run it under as I heat it up... Dang... very smart... The oven idea is pretty cool for salvaging parts, I would be interested to know at what temperature and for how long... :) -----Original Message----- From: torontocbm-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:torontocbm-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Leif Bloomquist Sent: Tuesday, May 05, 2009 4:04 PM To: torontocbm@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [torontocbm] Re: Adventures in C64 Rom Replacement... Just be cautious of static electricity! The little remnants of pins and excess solder just vanish. And then there's Joe's method of cooking the C64 board in the oven and bashing it to make all the chips fall off...! > I've started to edit my ROM, small things so far like change the startup > colour, > And change the name at the top. I also put in a larger EPROM with room for four kernals and switches on the side of the C64 connected to the EPROM's upper two address pins. So I can switch between the standard kernal, my custom kernal, and JiffyDOS (no fourth kernal yet). It's neat because you can switch between them *while the 64 is running* in most cases ;-) > One other question. if I find a custom .bin file for the kernel, and a > custom .bin file for the basic, can they be added > And then put on a 27128 chip? Or would I have to change the code around? You should be able to simply concatenate them and burn them together. > J thanks for you attention.
