Re: [tn-moths] off-topic--dragonfly from putnam county, tn, 29 august 2010Hi
Harold,

Thanks; I was not aware of the difference in the sexes; so much to learn, so
little time.

Best, Steve

  Steve,

It is a female Eastern Amberwing. The male hase entirely orange wings, but
the female has clear wings except for variable brown markings, generally a
basal spot and a band at the nodus. I have found the females to be slightly
larger than the males, but they are all about one inch long maximum.

  Best regards,

Can anyone i.d. this small (just a bit bigger than an Eastern Amberwing)
dragonfly that I found in my yard in Putnam Co., TN, 29 August 2010?

Saw a sprite in the yard the same day but could not get photo.
