The caterpillar seems to have a nub of a tail or horn and is about 1 1/2 inch long. This photo is zoomed from a distance as when I spotted the cat, it spotted me and started moving quite fast. The other shots I got were out of focus. He seemed to know where the hole was. Maybe he had been dodging my cats (felines). Does it have a tail.... it's hard to tell against the stump. I did not see it eating, only resting on this plum tree stump. When I got close, it crawled into the hole in the stump and I have not seen it since.
