Betty, how big is your caterpillar?  Does it have a tail.... it's hard to tell 
against the stump.

  Can anyone idintify this caterpillar?   I did not see it eating, only resting 
on this plum tree stump.  When I got close, it crawled into the hole in the 
stump and I have not seen it since.
