Recent submission of photos documenting new county butterfly records in Tennessee have increased the lists of all counties in the state out of the single digit realm, with one notable exception: Crockett County, currently with only 7 species on its list, which, by the way, has some impressive species (like Edwards' Hairstreak) among those 7. Still, I am wondering if it might be possible to increase the Crockett County list by at least three before the end of the year, so that there will be no single-digit list totals left in the state after 2010. Hope that a few among the West Tennessee butterfly contingent can get back into that small county in the next month or so to make this happen. Doug Bruce spent some time in Tennessee's easternmost county-Johnson County-lately and was able to photograph a sufficient number of county record 'flies to bring the list for that count up to 30. Johnson was the last East Tennessee county to have a butterfly list of less than 30 until Doug worked his photographic magic, so now the entire swatch of counties east of the Cumberland Plateau has butterfly lists of 30 or more. Congrats to Doug on being a big part of this accomplishment. David Trently and Harold Howell have also been active in this East Tennessee effort, as has David Spicer. The BAMONA effort to upgrade its website continues but has not been completed yet; there's a good chance this makeover will be complete before the end of the month. In the meantime, send along photos of county records, and I will continue to process and submit them. Good 'flyin', Steve Stedman Cookeville (Putnam County)
