Richard,

Very nice photos of a female Yehl. The ventral shot shows the 3 nice whitish ovals, usually indicative of a female Yehl. (the males often have yellow ovals)
In the blank space, where you would expect there to be a 4th white oval spot, is a broad ,yellowy, golden ray that extends from the outer edge, and heads towards the wingroot, making it about halfway through the hindwing. (On your particular gal, it's mainly imaginary)
The dorsal male Yehl shows a very obvious black stigma, but the dorsal female Yehl, and the dorsal Mr. and Mrs. Broad-wingeds, have very similar markings, and can be quite troublesome.
The similar three, from above, show almost identical yellow orange markings on the dorsal hindwing, but the dorsal forewing can give a few clues.
The male Broad-winged usually shows all yellow orange markings, on the dorsal forewing. (including the 2-3 wrist bracelet marks)

The female Broad-winged usually shows all white markings on the dorsal forewing. (or predominantly so)

The female Yehl usually has a combo of white and yellow orange markings on the dorsal forewing. The most likely markings to be white (or almost white) are the wrist bracelet marks.  Your dorsal shot (below) shows the 3 wrist  marks to be lighter, but not pure white.

The forehead, of the Yehl in your pictures, looks about as big as most other similar Skippers foreheads. The Broad-winged's forehead is flat, almost sunken in. like Mafuka's forehead. A face reader might say this shows a pragmatic nature.

Here's the flat forehead of the female Broad-winged that showed up in my yard on June 14th 2006, and hung around all day on the Butterfly Bush

The Broad-winged averages 1/3 to 1/2 again larger than the Yehl, which is very average sized Skipper.

Despite Julius'  beautiful illustrations of Yehl, vs Broad-winged skippers, I am still not certain as to the id of this skipper. Found 6/15 at Davey Crockett Birthplace SP Greene County, Nolichucky River, in water willow (Justicia americana), and there is much river cane along the bank.

I believe it is Yehl female, or possibly worn male. ID help appreciated.

Also found 6/15 on the adjoining creek- Harvester - should be BAMONA for Greene Co
