A big thanks to all who participated in the first Tennessee Butterfly Foray
this past weekend, based at Tims Ford State Park. I haven't begun to try to
compile the results, but I know we did add a few dozen records to various
counties, especially Franklin, Moore and Lincoln. Other counties had records
added as participants traveled to and from the Foray...so I know I'll soon have
a lot more work to do in keeping up my Not Seen lists at my Avian Pursuits
website.
I think the next time we do one (and everyone seemed interested in continuing
this type of event) we will call it a Lepidoptera Foray, as we did photograph -
and even identify! - a good number of moths as well.

The weather was good for most of the weekend, except for some Saturday morning
thunderstorms. Because of the rain, a lot of us concentrated on dragonflies
during the times before the butterflies started flying again - so there were
also a lot of new Odonate records added to many counties.

I expect we'll start seeing some "unidentified skipper" and moth photos posted
here soon, as we try to identify everything that was photographed. Please help
with those! (as I know you will)

Let me try to remember some of the highlights of which I am aware.

* Good numbers of hairstreaks continue to be found, including Coral, Banded and
Striped. I think there were more of these than Gray Hairstreaks. At least one
Juniper record. I don't know of any Red-banded yet.
* Diana Fritillaries were found in good numbers in the Cumberland Plateau by
those traveling that route to.from the Foray.
* Aphrodite Fritillaries were also found in the Cumberland Plateau, in two
counties.
* a possible Confused Cloudywing in Moore County.
* a beautiful fresh Horace's Duskywing was well-photographed outside our cabin
Saturday evening.
* while it was probably a Least Skipper...look soon for some photographs of
what did have the look of a Southern Skipperling, which would be a first state
record.
* other still unidentified skippers!

Once I compile the results, I'll post them here.
Thanks again to those who helped!!!
