Richard,
Buck Moths were pretty abundant last Saturday (Nov 5) in Pickett and Scott
Counties. Mindy Fawver and I saw probably a dozen or more between 12:00 and
2:00 pm. They were all in flight; we never actually saw one land, so we
temporarily netted one to photograph and confirm the species.

This was in Pickett SF and Big South Fork NRRA, much of which is oak forest.
BugGuide lists some TN sightings for Buck Moths in May and June. These are
likely caterpillar sightings, not adults.

73 degrees F, mostly sunny, stiff breeze from the south
A few butterflies were still flying in the park, see list below. The dam areas
were mowed mid summer so there was some thistle in bloom along the Lake
Woodhaven dam which would otherwise have been gone. One small grayish skipper I
could not identify, see here:

Most abundant lep of the day was probably Buck Moth, as identified on BugGuide:
med-large, day-flying, black and white with some red, and larval food is mostly
oaks. Lots of oaks in this park. Anybody else seeing this flying lately?
