Bart: Congrats on starting yet another butterfly count circle in Tennessee! In the NABA Appalachians region, which consists of Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia, Tennessee is very well represented. Last year 20 Tennessee counts were reported, compared to one from West Virginia and none in Kentucky. We had a spring seasonal count scheduled in the Tennessee River Gorge count circle last Saturday. Unfortunately completely overcast skies, winds out of the north up to 25 MPH and temperatures that never made it to 60 degrees forced us to cancel. No butterflies to be found that day. The Saturday before would have been grand, and wouldn't you know it..... 2-3 days later it was mild, sunny and 75-80! It is very difficult to plan a spring butterfly count well ahead of the date. The weather is just too changeable. I will be off on Thursday, April 28, and if the weather is willing, I may try it again. I realize mid-week is a problem for many people, but if anyone out there can help, please let me know. I will try to post Wednesday on tn-butterflies if it is a go for Thursday.
