Hi folks, After picking Allan up from daycare, I decided it was too nice a day not to take a little walk. We headed to the spillway section of the Maryville Greenway. The beautiful drake Northern Shoveller that has been around for a few months was there again, and Allan even looked at it (when the streetlights, joggers, a dog and passing traffic weren't holding his attention!) An adult Black-crowned Night Heron which several people have seen was in its usual place below the spillway on the first healthy looking Sycamore tree (this is a traditional roost spot). A nice "yellow" Palm Warbler was hanging out in the "house sparrow" bushes below the library. I forgot to mention that I saw a "western" Palm Warbler yesterday at the Stilt Pond. That is the only species for which I have recognized more than one form so far this year, unless you count the "white-throated" Northern Cardinal that is seen everyday at our feeders. The Greenway also hosted numerous birds of full or partial Mallard lineage, about 15 Ring-necked Ducks, one Great Blue Heron and a muskrat.
