Capturing a live adult Red-tailed Hawk for "falconry" is outrageous and
appalling.

In this case, I happen to "know" of that bird specific bird. I also =
know
individual non-birder humans in the area who would/will be similarly
outraged as they have told me of observations that bird for several =
years.

I got the following note form TWRA officer and TOS member Tommy Edwards =
of=20
Columbia:
=20
Richard,
There has been a permit authorized to capture the albino red-tailed hawk =
in

the hwy 96 area. I think this is the hawk you took pictures of. The
capture=20
will be to use it in falconry. You might want to let the TOS community =
be=20
aware of this in case anyone has any thoughts.
Thanks

This is disturbing news to me. Not that I have anything against =
falconry as

such, but seems like taking adult birds are the wrong way to go. =
Especially
a=20
spectacular old girl like this bird! She does more as a free-flying,
regular=20
winter neighbor, and has more value free than she could ever have as=20
someone's captive for sport. Many people know about this bird and =
enjoy
seeing it=20
some-what tame, along Hwy. 96 in Williamson County. I'm sure the =
consensus
of=20
opinion from people who have seen this bird would be for TWRA to deny =
this=20
permit.
