Hello folks, Yesterday, Wednesday February 23, I saw an accipter carrying nesting material. The location was the very north end of Montvale Road (also called SR 336) in Maryville, Blount County. The bird was flying east over the cemetary, only about 20 feet above the ground. This is in the direction of a well-established neighborhood near Maryville College which has many mature trees and some areas of nearly full canopy. It is also in the direction of Maryville College Woods, though the height at which this bird was flying leads me to believe it was going to somewhere closer than that. I didn't get a spectacular view, but suspect it to have been a Sharp-shinned Hawk. The material was rather long and a bit sparse. Probably about 18-24 inches longe, and perhaps as thick as a pencil.
