May 3-6, 2010

Greene County: Greeneville, etc.

Observations from the last few days, mostly from brief outings before and after
work:

Solitary Sandpiper (2, May 3)
Common Nighthawk (May 3)
Whip-poor-will (6 Greene Mountain Road, May 5)
Eastern Wood-Pewee (May 3, 6)
Yellow-throated Vireo (May 6)
Warbling Vireo (Moon Creek Road, May 3)
Cliff Swallow (2 Tusculum, May 3)
Swainson's Thrush (May 6)
Cape May Warbler (2, May 5)
Blackpoll Warbler (2, May 3)
Black-and-white Warbler (May 4)
American Redstart (May 3, 5-6)
Worm-eating Warbler (May 5)
Wilson's Warbler (Greeneville, May 6)
Grasshopper Sparrow (2, May 6)
Dickcissel (Plantation Drive, May 6)

Today's Wilson's Warbler represents only my second personal record for spring
in Greene County. The other was on May 10, 2004 at Kinser Park. Both birds
announced their presence by singing. Fall records are only a little more
common.
