A beautiful afternoon at the Hiwassee Refuge and 3 adult Whooping Cranes
were the highlight. Thanks for leaving Doug. As we said they would come
after you left. Actually they were there all along just hidden by
corn/bushes. At sunset the Whoopers gave us a great show from the gazebo
when the three birds along with numerous Sandhill Cranes flew to the
Hiwassee River to roost. Other birds of note:
- Several thousand Sandhill Cranes
- Many many mallards
- 3 Pintails
- Numerous Ring-necked Ducks
- Numerous D-C Cormorants
- Numerous Great Blue Herons-
- 2 Great Egrets
- 1 Bald Eagle
- 1 Northern Harrier
- 1 Kestrel
- Covey of Northern Bobwhite
