Returning from Cove lake on Sunday I stopped by a small, muddy farm pond in Jefferson County near Cherokee Dam. It is on Renfro Road off of State Route 92. There were ten peeps feeding in the shallow end of the Pond. I believe they are all Western Sandpipers, but would appreciate comments. With the high water in the TVA Lakes the shorebirds must be scrounging for any mud flats they can find, however small. I visit this site regularly and this is the first time I have found shorebirds.
