9/27/2010 Carroll Co (between Trezevant and McKenzie on Hwy 79) On my way home from work this morning, I had a quick look at a juvenile Swainson's Hawk. This was about a mile or so east of Trezevant on Hwy 79. I noticed a group of about 10 Turkey Vultures up at mid-level, and a single Hawk with the Vultures, but above all of them. Even with the naked eye it looked the bird hawk had a lot of dark on the trailing edge of the wing. I was able to stop and get my binocs on the birds for a couple of minutes, but they were steadily moving to the south. The Swainson's was a crisp, light-morph juvenile bird. This is only my 2nd Swainson's for the state, the first being many years ago near Britton Ford, in my youth birding days. Naturally, my camera should be back from Canon today, could have gotten some decent pix had I had it. Good Birding!!
