[TN-Bird] Sightings report 5-16 March Ensley Bottoms area, Memphis, Shelby County

Sightings report 5-16 March Ensley Bottoms area, Memphis, Shelby County
 

Sorry to be tardy with these postings for this two week period.

Warmer weather starting to bring change in what is seen in the bottoms. Gone
are the thousands of ducks at TVA. Shorebirds should be arriving soon to the
Pits.

 

Location:     TN 2 Mem, TE Maxwell Lagoons

Observation date:     3/5/07

Notes:     Drove around the earth complex to see what we could see, not
much, not many raptors out an about this lunch hour.

Location:     TN 2 Mem, Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp

Observation date:     3/5/07

Notes:     Warmer weather less ducks but the other birds are making
themselves known.

Notes:     Majority of Scaup now on the little pond as dredging is picking
up on the big pond.

Observation date:     3/8/07

Notes:     Since it was dry I drove through the pits today. Except for the
Killdeer and Geese in the drying fields that was it. Came out on the back
levee overlooking the canal. Wish i had more time to walk instead of drive
the levee lots of forest birds about, but alas, lunch hour is up.

Observation date:     3/13/07

Notes:     Teal were first ones I've seen in the ponds and slough's this
year. They stood out nicely from the Gadwalls, Ringnecks, and Mallards. With
the warm weather coming in I expect less and less ducks to hang around.

Notes:     Quick stop by the sloughs and ponds. Still some duck activity.

Notes:     Windy day. Strong winds out of the NW making white caps on the
ponds. Coots and couple of L Scaup on big pond the rest bunched up on the
small pond.
