Sightings Report, 1st half of March, Peterson Lake Nature Center
Area,Collierville, Shelby Cty
35 species seen in three outings this month alone.

New boardwalk at the Peterson Lake Nature Center, is now open all the way to
the Wolf River. This ¾ of a mile boardwalk meanders through bottomland
hardwood forest, and sloughs and swamp before turning back once it reaches
the river.

The Nature center is located in the WC Johnson Park, (Better known for
ballfields) at the Northern end of Byhalia Rd east of the intersection with
Wolfriver Blvd.

Location: TN 1 Cvll, Peterson Lake Nature Center

Observation date: 3/3/07

Notes: Boardwalk was blocked today from the bridge onward so they could
tie in the new boardwalk. Stayed up front in the woods and parking/picnic
area under the trees and birded. Flock of 200+ Cedar Waxwings came in
feeding, bathing, drinking in the low areas. Lots of pictures. Berry eating
birds making a mess though.

Boardwalk (phase two of Peterson Lake Nature Center)is approx 3/4 mile to
the Wolf river. Lots of birds available just after getting out of the car in
the parking lot and walking to the first bridge of the old section of
boardwalk. Only bad thing about this boardwalk is all the people enjoying
it. Hikers are great but the kids on bikes and blades have to go. Todays
highlights are 6 of the seven woodpeckers (No Hairy today) Pileated was a
