Sightings Report 21,22,23 May 07 Presidents Island Memphis Shelby County All three days are approx 1hr visits at lunch time on Presidents Island in search of the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and it's mate. Last week I spent two days at lunch looking and waiting with no luck. This week good views finally. Location: Tn, Memphis, Presidents Island Observation date: 5/21/07 Notes: Finally found the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and it's mate out front of Fire Station 32.(Jeff Wilson's original posts) Male there and gone towards the water tower behind the fire station. Female which looks like half Scissor tail and half Western Kingbird sitting on nest that is in a channel bracket on the wood pole facing the Fire Station. Number of species: 9 Rock Pigeon 35 Eurasian Collared-Dove 3 Mourning Dove 50 Eastern Kingbird 2 Scissor-tailed Flycatcher 2 Northern Mockingbird 2 European Starling 7 House Finch 3 House Sparrow 4 Location: Tn, Memphis, Presidents Island Observation date: 5/22/07 Notes: Male ST spotted on next pole to the east. Mom no where to be found then flew in quick onto the nest and dad left seconds later. Number of species: 7 Rock Pigeon X Eurasian Collared-Dove X Mourning Dove X Scissor-tailed Flycatcher 2 European Starling X House Finch X House Sparrow X Location: Tn, Memphis, Presidents Island Observation date: 5/23/07 Notes: Male & Female(Hybrid?) SCT Flycatcher both on or near the nest area. Male finally stayed around long enough to study and get a couple of pictures of it. Other birds seen were the same as earlier in the week.
