[TN-Bird] orioles, rosebreasted grosbeaks, etc.

Carol Reese

Chester County, Island Road

My oriole crowd (seven males at one point and four females) left a couple
of weeks ago, as did my several rosebreasted grosbeaks. I had a second wave
of visitors just two days ago - two male Baltimores, and a lone
rosebreasted grosbeak. They did not linger in spite of ample and tempting
food.

A pair of orchard orioles seem to have set up house for the summer. I spoil
them with oranges, grapes and grape jelly. However a flock of cedar
waxwings have discovered the buffet and make pigs of themselves. Where a
dozen grapes, an orange and a spoonfull of jelly would last the orioles an
entire day, the cedar waxwings devour that amount in a few minutes.

The ladderback woodpecker has decided he also likes oranges and jelly. I've
seen some butterflies I've never seen before on the jelly as well.

Guess who needs to go by the grocery store on the way home?
