Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge Knox County (on the French Broad River) Sunday, 16 July 2006 Hi folks, The banding continues to be interesting at Seven Islands (SIWR). Today we caught 73 birds of 16 species. We?re really seeing the youngsters hit the nets now, with 40 of the 55 newly banded birds hatched this year. In addition to the signs that breeding is over that we saw last week (blackbirds flocking up, less song, etc) we also are starting to see some birds that just migrate through, such as Cliff Swallows. Species banded hatch year recaptured unbanded Common Yellowthroat 4 2 0 1 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 1 0 0 0 Red-winged Blackbird 11 5 1 0 Northern Mockingbird 2 2 0 0 Brown-headed Cowbird 2 2 1 0 Eastern Towhee 1 1 0 0 Field Sparrow 14 14 2 0 Song Sparrow 8 8 4 0 Indigo Bunting 7 3 0 1 Grasshopper Sparrow 1 0 2 1 Carolina Wren 1 1 1 1 Orchard Oriole 2 2 0 0 Yellow-breasted Chat 1 0 1 0 Northern Cardinal 0 0 1 0 Willow Flycatcher 0 0 1 0 Our next banding day is Friday, July 28.
