Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge Knox County, TN Sunday, 9 July 2006 Hi folks, Sorry for the late report, but I?ve been busy moving my household to Georgia. The big news for Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge (SIWR) is that we finally broke the 100 mark! On Sunday, July 9, 2006 we caught exactly 100 birds. Over half (53) of these were hatched this year. As the breeding season winds down, we are recording fewer species of birds singing, and we are starting to see Red-winged Blackbirds form the sex- and age-segregated flocks typical of the ?off-season?, which resulted in our catching a bunch of them in 2 waves. The first numbers below indicate the number of each species caught. The numbers in parentheses indicate the number of those that hatched this year. Thanks to Mark Armstrong, 3 hummingbirds have now been banded at SIWR! It is so interesting to see the difference between this station and Tremont, which has never caught more than 86 birds in a SEASON!
