TN birders, John Henderson, Jan Chadwell, and I spent yesterday am trying for Bewick's Wren, but to no avail. Arriving at the first of three spots outlined well by Terry Witt on posts of 15 and 19Apr, we had a pair of scissor-tailed flycatchers(FOY) who appear to be bulding a nest on a utility pole crossbar, and a singing orchard oriole, along with three eastern kingbirds(FOY). No grasshopper sparrow or bewick's was heard at the Lytle Creek Road spot(3427). Also, heard northern bobwhite(FOY) at this location. Checking the two sites on Alsup Mill Road(first in Rutherford, and second in Wilson Co-county changes at the junction with Rocky Hill Road), we had no singing by the Bewick's. Did hear prairie warbler(FOY) along this area(Wilson Co). Conditions could not have been better, and we arrived at the first site about 8:15am local time. Stopped by the Discovery Center wetlands on Hwy 41 in Murfreesboro to get our year yellow-crowned night heron, and had a consolation cattle egret(FOY) on Highway 41 in Coffee Co. A frustrating day to say the least.
