Willie was up early this morning and popped into the heat lamp light at 6:26 a.m. after a night when the temperature dropped into the low teens. He had a wonderful day on Sunday as the wind subsided and the other birds stayed away and he could sit alone in the bare bush to the left of the feeder. It was a day-long delight to look out the kitchen door and see him sitting there soaking up the sunshine. And is he getting FAT ! With his feathers puffed out and his wings drooped, viewing him from the back makes him appear almost as broad as he is long. He was enjoying it so much that apparently he didn't want it to end either as he fed until 4:50 p.m. If you are coming from the west of Dayton for the TOS meeting this week, it would be a good opportunity to stop and see Willie. If you come through Smithville and take the secondary roads to Dayton it is a beautiful drive and has some pretty good birding spots on the way. We're going to stay here and be sure Willie is cared for but plan to go to Hiwassee tomorrow on a day trip to try and see the cranes.
