The Hiwassee CBC was held on January 1 with 15 observers reporting 81 species. That is a lower than average total but on excellent one considering how difficult the conditions were. It is the wettest CBC I have every experienced and I have been doing CBC's since 1985! I want to thank everyone who braved the conditions on that very wet day including some who came from Nashville to experience this count for the first time. I am sure they will never forget it!! Highlights included: 4 - Snow Goose 1 - Great Egret (now an annual species) 15 - Bald Eagles 12304 - Sandhill Crane 28 - Least Sandpiper (highest number ever for count) 15 - Dunlin 1 - Loggerhead Shrike (difficult anywhere in SE TN) 1 - Fox Sparrow 7 - White-crowned Sparrow (harder and harder to find) 1 - Purple Finch Kevin Calhoon Hiwassee CBC Compilier =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
