July 27, 2002 Ensley Bottoms, Shelby Co. TN Her Highness held court today with birders from 5 states and all points of the compass from the pits. She was unavailable until 9 AM. Around noon she became unhappy at not being invited to a Bar-B-Que luncheon held in her honor and made herself scarce until after 4 PM. She was last viewed about 7:45 PM nonchalantly feeding in the evening shadows. She has widened her horizons and now can be found in any number of locations in and around the pits. She will hold another soiree tomorrow if asked nicely and you play her game. A single immature Western Kingbird was seen 2 out of 3 times we looked for it and Baird's and Am. Golden-plover were the only other shorebirds of note among the 15 species present. Migrating hawks, terns and shorebirds were seen through out the day. Groups of 8-12-16 and 4 of Black Terms were short time visitors through out the day. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
