Most be a red-letter, Red-breasted Nuthatch day (and month). See the email
from Irvin Pitts from South Carolina. Another email today on the Georgia
listserve has a Red-breast in Powder Springs, GA (Cobb Co.), and I have seen
two this month, including one today, on my "mountain" (i.e., hill) property
in Williamson County. I would bet they will be as south as the panhandle in
Florida (if you are going south look for them at Tall Timbers Research
Station, FL just over the border from GA).

Subject: another red-breasted nuthatch

Good morning,
I've noticed the number of reports this fall of red-breasted nuthatch and I
too observed one yesterday (September 19) on Dearborn Island near Great
Falls Chester County SC. In the mountains around Caesars Head SC I found
this species to be a regular fall migrant - occurring from mid-September
through October (personal early arrival date being September 7, 1988). It
seems though based on this year's reports, this species is occurring in
higher than usual numbers in the midlands and lower parts of the state.
