One of the early East Tennessee records of a White Pelican was a single
bird on Norris Lake in late November/December 1972 that stayed almost a
month - http://www.tnbirds.org/MigrantOnline/V044/V044024-027.pdf. The
status of the White Pelican in Tennessee, however, has greatly changed
since then.

The white pelicans, I just counted 50, are still near Friendsville and Ish
Creek Bay in Blount County. This is the 7th day they have been in the area
which seems like a long stopover for East Tennessee. Does anyone know how
long they usually stay in one place when they stopover in Tennessee?
The pelicans are visible this morning from Lowes Ferry Road. They are
across the lake near the mouth of Ish Creek which is the inlet going up to
Ish Creek boat ramp. Sometimes, a lot of times lately, they are in a cove
not visible from any roads.

The size of the White Pelican flock at Ish Creek Bay I reported earlier
is actually closer to 53 white pelicans. A boat just flushed them and when
they flew I got a more accurate count. They were all huddled together when
I tried to count them early this morning. They are now in a new location on
the shore of Ish Creek Bay where they are visible from Lowes Ferry Road
before the Scenic Point gate.
