Radnor Lake
Davidson Co.
The rains stopped just as we started up the road, and birdsong and sightings
were numerous along the dam and behind the ranger's house. It took us 2
hours just to get past the spillway, and we stopped at the overlook on the
Lake
Trail and turned back at 10:30! We only added 2 warbler species to the list
Frank Fekel already reported, Palm and Louisiana Waterthrush. One of the
adult Bald Eagles flew real close to us on the dam and we watched it catch a
fish. We enjoyed great looks at lots of Blackpolls, Blackburnian,
Bay-breasted
and Chestnut-sideds, and had a fairly cooperative singing and preening
Mourning Warbler at the point in front of the ranger's house. Others besides
warblers included:
wild turkey
red-shouldered hawk
swift
ruby-throated hummingbird
pair of pileated on the ground feeding
pewee
phoebe
great crested flycatcher
white-eyed vireo
Philadelphia vireo
red-eyed vireo
n. rough-winged swallow
gnatcatcher
bluebird
gray-cheeked thrush
Swainson's thrush
wood thrush
catbird
rose-breasted grosbeak
indigo bunting
