The PILEATED WOODPECKER nest here at school that I have been watching, is now empty. The birds must have fledged over the weekend. Both yesterday and Monday I checked the nest several times and never saw any birds. I stopped at the bottom of the hill again this morning (7:30 am) and listened for GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS. I'm even more confident that I heard them calling today. I would love a confirming opinion. I know Tom Howe tried the other day but weather wasn't cooperative. He did note 2 WILLOW FLYCATCHERs across the road (Gilbert) in the little wetland behind Dalen Co.
