May 7, 2011 I birded the trail near the Raptor Center this am hoping to see all the warblers that Virginia Reynolds saw. I didnâ??t see near the numbers or variety that she did but I did get a great show by a Pileated Woodpecker. He was working away at a fallen log pounding it with his bill and scooping out tons of insects. I enjoyed watching him on the ground instead of craning my neck upwards! They are usually such elusive woodpeckers, but this one didnâ??t seem too concern about who was watching him. In fact, he was still digging and eating when I finally left. Indigo buntings were the most numerous bird that I saw this morning as they were singing and flying all around me. Good Birding!
