A quick trip to the "pits" today found Mississippi Kites still busy low over
the area but only about 1/2 of Sunday's total. A lot of the shorebirds still
hunkered in the spread fields but new birds were evident, as I found my
first immature Baird's and Pectoral Sandpipers for the year plus 9 of 12 Stilt
Sandpipers were also in fine juvenile plumage.

Some migrating families of Black-necked Stilts had found the pits and 2
separate Buff-breasted were in the cut Pigweed. Thirteen species of Wind Birds
for today but this has been one of the craziest fall migrations I've ever
witnessed here with a lot of early fast birds but few birds hanging around and
young birds showing up slightly earlier that usual but in small numbers. Maybe
this weather will slow some movement down for this weekend.

Out on the MS RV, where the sandbars are in full bloom with the river about
at normal stage for this time of the year, I had 21 Least Terns and a
collection, strewn up and down the front, of 23 Black-necked Stilts plus a
large
group of shorebirds resting on the upper Loosahatchie Bar but too far to get
any
IDs.
Good Birding !!!

What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens.
