Since our NTOS February field trip and the state TOS Winter Meeting were
both planned for the same area, we decided to combine the two into a
bird-filled
weekend and a chance to meet birders from across the state. The Winter
Meeting is a birding weekend with no formal business or board of directors
meeting. The Paris Landing, Pace Pt. and Britton Ford areas in Henry and
Benton
counties always hold lots of wintering waterfowl, eagles, gulls, and sparrows.

Just a few of the interesting birds that have been seen there in recent years
include Cackling Goose, Greater Scaup, scoters, Long-tailed Duck, 4 species
of loon, Red-necked Grebe, both eagles, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Thayer's
Gull, Le Conte's Sparrow, and Lapland Longspur. There will be trips on
Saturday and Sunday to these places and a few lesser known spots.

Please make your reservations now at 1-800-250-8614. Winter rates for TN
State Park facilities are now in effect. There is a coupon for a discount on
inn rates which reduces the room rate from $65 to $45.95 plus tax. You do need
a coupon to receive the discount. Call 1-888-867-2757 and one will be sent
to you, or visit their web site to print out a copy (_www.tnstateparks.com_
(http://www.tnstateparks.com/) ). Since NTOS members may need to leave
Nashville at different times, please call me (331-2231) if you intend to go,
and I
will try to arrange carpooling. Remember to bring your scope and plenty of
warm clothes.
