A friend who lives in Blount County came home one night this weekend to find a
male mallard in her yard. The duck had a snake (species undetermined) partly
wrapped around its neck. She and her companion got a garden tool and pinned
the snake, causing it to release the mallard. It was then they realized that
the snake had a duckling in its mouth. The duckling was beyond saving, but the
adult duck got away. She says there is no sizeable body of water near her
house, and she has never seen a duck in her yard before, so she has no idea
where it came from, or how it got there.
