If anyone is interested, I've uploaded several more images of the interesting Long-tailed Duck that is hanging out at Paris Landing State Park in Henry Co. I had much better views of the bird today, and got some decent shots. Some shots show how much different the bird could look with differences of angle and lighting. I've looked at a ton of images of Long-tailed Duck online, and only a handful come even close to matching the appearance of this bird. It's been a treat and a learning experience. Maybe it will be a little easier the next time someone else comes across one of these darker birds. This is one of the only times that the vaunted Sibley just doesn't help much with this bird! The images are here: http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/winter_20072008 the 6 Long-tailed Duck images on the last two rows are from today, and they immediately follow the 4 more distant shots from yesterday. The white female-type Long-tailed Duck from the same location a few days ago is a few images before these. Good Birding!!
