[TN-Bird] Sightings Report 23 Nov 07, TVA Ponds and Robco & Coro Lakes, SW Memphis Shelby County

Location:     TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS
Observation date:     11/23/07, 900am-1045am

Notes:     Cold Front came through day before Thanksgiving bringing a change
of birds to the bottoms. Scaup have now taken over the high numbers on the
big pond behind the two big rafts of Coots. Good Mix of ducks between both
ponds.

Redhead     17

Ring-necked Duck     20

Lesser Scaup     200 +/-

Hooded Merganser     6

Pied-billed Grebe     7

Double-crested Cormorant     7

Great Blue Heron     5

Red-tailed Hawk     1

American Kestrel     2

American Coot     300 +/-

Killdeer     2

Ring-billed Gull     12

Mourning Dove     50

Belted Kingfisher     1

Northern Mockingbird     1

House Finch     5

 

Location:     TN 2 Mem , Robco/Coro Lake SW Shelby Cty/Memphis

Observation date:     11/23/07, 1115am-1245pm

Notes:     Lots of ducks (big rafts on both lakes) on both lakes. Robco Lk
was loaded with mostly Scaup and Ruddy's. Could have been others but they
were way out there. Coro Lk had more Ring Necked ducks than Scaup. 3 Great
Egrets seen at one time in area of the levee between the lakes just prior to
leaving. Osprey was bird of the day. Almost missed him except for it making
a kill(plucking a fish) out in front of me as I looked up from the scope.
