Kyker Bottom Refuge 8/30 Maryville, Tennessee Blount County As I have posted before....Kyker is an acquired taste for birding in the summer months, but it is near my house. Kyker takes some effort to bird right now due to the grass heighth in spots and of course mosquitoes in places. Having said all that ... I love the place! The late fall and summer breeding at Kyker has seemed to been good. I have noted good populations of young American Goldfinch, Northern Bob-White, Mourning Dove, Carolina Wren and Northern Mockingbirds. Not a great number of species, but good quantities what is there. I was able to get a pretty good photo of a Yellow-billed Cuckoo yesterday! It was very camera shy, so I needed to sit patiently and wait for it to become comfortable enough to come to some outer branches. http://bhowdy.smugmug.com/photos/362383475_QxwTi-L.jpg And a Northern Mockingbird that followed me around for a good while, not camera shy at all! http://bhowdy.smugmug.com/photos/362383484_4ydDy-L.jpg List from yesterday 8/30/08 Wild Turkey - 7 Northern Bobwhite - 50+ Red-shouldered Hawk - 2 (1 juvenile) Red-tailed Hawk - 1 Eurasian Collared-Dove - 2 Mourning Dove - 100+ Yellow-billed Cuckoo - 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird - 10+ Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 American Crow - 50+ Carolina Chickadee - 2 Carolina Wren - 10+ Northern Mockingbird - 10+ Blue Grosbeak - 9 House Finch - 25+ American Goldfinch - 50+ Bob Howdeshell Maryville, Tennessee Blount County =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
