Hi All,
Early yesterday morning Max Medley, George Parsley (both of Dalton GA), and I
headed up to Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge near Birchwood, TN to see the now famous
Hooded Crane, provenance unknown, currently in residence there with thousands
of Sandhill Cranes and a few Whooping Cranes!
We were not disappointed and quickly had great looks at the adult Hooded Crane,
we also enjoyed seeing 4 Whooping Cranes, one young and three adults (the
adults from the overlook at Cherokee Removal Memorial Park at Blythe Ferry).
I was able to get some phonescoped video of the Hooded Crane showing the red
crown at times, quite a bit of preening and wing flapping, both from the front
and the back of the bird, as well as some of the interaction between the
Sandhill Cranes and the Hooded.
The videos are up in the 121711 HOODED CRANE Hiwassee WR TN folder at:

After Hiwassee WR, we had 32+ Common Goldeneye on Chickamauga Lake from Booker
T. Washington State Park, after Booker T. we were able to relocate the Tundra
Swan at the Lake Ocoee flats at the east end of the lake east of Cleveland just
before dark.
Another very enjoyable day of near Georgia birding in Tennessee, and it was
great to see so many folks come out to see the Hooded Crane!
Good Birding All!
